The Arctic region continued to break records in 2012—among them the loss of summer sea ice, spring snow cover, and melting of the Greenland ice sheet. This was true even though air temperatures in the Arctic were unremarkable relative to the last decade, according to a new report released today.

The Scottish Government has submitted proposals to the EU that include plans for Europe’s largest marine area of nature conservation in waters west of Scotland.

The designation of Hatton Bank as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), located approximately 500 km west of Lewis, would cover an area of 15,694 square kilometres – more than 10 times the size of Fife.

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy and Management (BOEM) is proposing to lease offshore wind power on the outer continental shelf offshore of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. BOEM is soliciting comments on this proposal through February 1st, 2013. Full details are in the attached PDF from the Federal Register.
