Description: 

The tasks of the Scientific Officer include:  
 
- Support to the Executive Secretary in delivering against the objectives of the MedPAN Strategy 
 
- Update of the scientific strategy for the period 2019-2023 and beyond,  
 
- Scientific and technical supervision and overseeing progress of all MedPAN activities ( e.g. steering committees, Scientific support for projects proposals and evaluation, specific working groups, scientific watch, sharing-experience workshops…)  and products (capacity building events and tools, small projects, internal and external communication, thematic projects…) and in particular the Mediterranean MPA Forum, Roadmap and Status Report every 4 years conducted together with the SPA/RAC, 
 
- Supervision of the MedPAN MPA data manager who is in charge of the Mediterranean MPA database (MAPAMED) and its update together with the SPA/RAC, of specific analysis related to MPAs, of keeping the online monitoring resource center for MPA managers active, of developing specific monitoring protocols for MPAs, of supervising harmonised monitoring actions across the Mediterranean, and of animating thematic working groups, 
 
- Supervision and coordination of the MedPAN Scientific Committee, 
 
- Collaboration with scientists, research organisations and other institutional or technical partners in the Mediterranean and beyond, and keep track of scientific projects carried out mainly in the Mediterranean, - Representation of MedPAN and Mediterranean MPAs in scientific and technical meetings and major events in the Mediterranean and beyond, 
 
- Scientific and technical contribution to the development of tools and arguments to influence policy implementation, major donors, and relevant economic sectors, 
 
- Support to fundraising for MPAs and for the MedPAN organisation, targeting scientific-related funds or contributing to multi-MPA thematic project development in particular. 
 
- Supervision of interns or PhD students when relevant. 
 
 The Scientific Officer will work under the coordination of the Executive Secretary and in close collaboration with the MPA Support Manager (in charge of capacity building) and the Communication Manager.
