The Deputy Director serves as a member of the Council’s leadership team and assists the Executive Director in the operation of the Council office through recommendations regarding policies, procedures, personnel actions, equipment, fiscal responsibilities, and other administrative activities and functions.
The Deputy is primarily responsible for coordinating and supporting technical staff in the development of fishery management plans and amendments, establishing priorities and managing workloads, coordinating with assigned staff from the National Marine Fisheries Service and timely review of Council actions by the various scientific committees and advisory panels. This position is responsible for providing direct supervision of technical staff including completion of annual performance evaluations, maintenance of up-to-date position descriptions, as well as the application of Council policies and procedures.
The Deputy is responsible for preparing, monitoring, or reviewing fishery management plans/amendments, stock assessments, agendas, meeting materials and other documents before distribution to the Council and the public. Other duties include travel to public hearings and other meetings to present draft fishery management plans/amendments, scientific data, and other information regarding the Council and its activities.
The Deputy serves as staff officer in charge of all staff personnel in the absence of the Executive Director and as immediate supervisor to the technical staff. The Deputy reports directly to the Executive Director, and in the absence of the Executive Director under the supervision of the Council Chair and Vice-Chair.
