This position will support the Blue Prosperity Coalition, a major new initiative of the Waitt Foundation, Waitt Institute and other partners with a focus on ocean conservation. The Coalition works with Government partners to achieve ocean protection and sustainable blue growth through technical assistance in marine spatial planning. The Fellow will support successful development and implementation of the Blue Prosperity Initiative and provide general support to the Waitt Institute. The position requires ability to conduct targeted research and analysis in fast-paced dynamic work environment. The position will report to Waitt Institute (WI) Program Manager. The position may involve travel.
Responsibilities We are seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual with exceptionally strong writing and data synthesis skills to: • Develop, maintain and update the Blue Prosperity Coalition toolkit • Research key topics and create executive summaries of scientific papers, government reports, and other documents for Management • Provide support to scientific staff, including data entry, data QA/QC, scientific analysis and science writing, particularly in support of the Waitt Institute’s science • Provide support to program management staff, including supporting project tracking, developing reports and memos, and other tasks as needed • Support development of peer-reviewed scientific papers, including data analysis, drafting, editing, and managing logistics for multi-author audience • Support and facilitate data sharing requests from partners, collaborators, and government ministries and other government departments • Copy edit reports and other materials • Administrative tasks as assigned • Other tasks to be devised based on time, expertise, and interest
Qualifications Required • Education qualifications must include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in socioeconomics, policy, biological sciences or a related field • Able to expeditiously and accurately evaluate and synthesize scientific information, pertaining to ocean and coastal ecosystems • Excellent writing and editing skills for science and non-science audiences • ArcGIS, Statistical Analysis, and data management expertise • Flexibility to respond to changing assignments • Excellent time and project management • Knowledge about science and policy pertaining to ocean conservation and sustainable development
