Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC) strives to provide world class marine science education which inspires the next generation of scientists and ocean stewards. We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our education team. PMMC offers a great variety of educational programming to a wide range of audiences. We are looking for an enthusiastic team member who can help us take our programs to the next level. We seek  someone who can expand our STEM based ocean science activities and identify how we can further adapt  current, or create new, curriculum and align it with NGSS and Ocean Literacy standards. This person will have exceptional and engaging presentation skills, as well as an extremely detail oriented with administrative work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program reservations and administration

  • Maintain, update and improve reservation system for all education programming
  • Process program reservations and payments for all education programming
  • Respond to inquiries and correspondence with registrants
  • Schedule all education programming and volunteer teachers
  • Maintain and send out schedule to staff and volunteers
  • Update and send out pre and post materials and evaluations for education programs
  • Compile reports and analysis on bookings, revenue, evaluations for all education programming
  • Actively market programs online, through social media, and in the community to increase bookings
  • Update program descriptions and other information on PMMC’s website

Coordination of paid programs

  • Maintain education classroom and storage areas
  • Order and inventory program materials
  • Teach education programming in absence of volunteer teachers
  • Assist with program content development
  • Responsible for the alignment of curriculum with STEM, NGSS and Ocean Literacy standards for all school programs
  • Tasked with bringing technology into the classroom and developing STEM related ‘hands on’ ocean science activities
  • Train/manage summer camp counselor paid staff
  • Recruit/train/manage after school and camp program youth volunteers
  • Coordinate after school, camp, field trip, scout and distance learning programs
  • Recruitment and training of volunteer teachers for paid programming

 

Miscellaneous responsibilities

  • Assist with outreach program as needed
  • Assist with community give back programs as needed (Healing Seals, Saving Seals and Sea Lions for Service Members)
  • Fill in and assist with the Change the Life of a Seal and Pinniped Pollution Project programs as needed.
  • Meet weekly with the director to communicate regarding progress/events
  • Take initiative to further the success of the department via  working with director on ideas, complete outside research, develop and implement new educational programs
  • Represent PMMC through the participation of community special events, including the preparing and working of the event
  • Administration tasks and other duties as assigned by the Education Director

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Able to learn new software expediently

Additional qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, marine biology or related field
  • Experience teaching in both a formal and informal classroom setting

*Experience in marine biology a plus

*Social media and video editing skills a plus
