The University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant program (http://gacoast.uga.edu ) seeks an individual to serve as a liaison between the National Sea Grant program and Southeast Regional Partnership for Planning and Sustainability (SERPPAS) (https://serppas.org) and to work with military bases and their surrounding communities on implementing coastal resilience measures. The liaison is expected to develop a comprehensive research and outreach program that facilitates the transfer of information, tools, and resources between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Sea Grant program, and military installations in and adjacent to U.S. coastal areas. The program will leverage Sea Grant’s significant stakeholder engagement and coastal community resilience expertise with the compatible land use planning, conservation and coastal resiliency efforts occurring on and around military installations to advance the sustainability of coastal communities, ecosystems and military readiness. The liaison will also transfer findings and impacts of specific research and outreach projects across the national Sea Grant network to encourage greater collaborative coastal resilience efforts between military facilities and coastal communities beyond the SERPPAS geographic region.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, non-tenured Public Service Faculty track position with five years of initial funding secured. This position is based in Athens, Georgia with travel to other regional and national locations required to ensure the most critical needs of the program are met. Alternative work location can be considered. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is acceptable for a Public Service Provisional appointment. An M.S. degree, or a PhD or terminal degree in a related field with at least one year of experience in extension and outreach programs or with military installations with a basic understanding of resilience and sustainability related to climate change science is preferred.
