In the News

The US Department of the Interior (DOI) Summer 2012 issue of NEWSWAVE has been released. You may download a copy of it below.

Via the DOI announcement:

"This issue celebrates the economic, ecological and cultural value of our coastal resources.

You can read a follow-up story on the nesting terns at Poplar Island, about a mysterious deadly relationship between sea otters and harmful algal blooms, high-tech metals in the deep sea, and Interior’s involvement in events like Capitol Hill Oceans Week, AGU’s first ever Science and Policy Conference, and World Ocean’s Day. In our feature stories, we highlight examples of how cooperative science programs are improving coastal resiliency, informing restoration activities and protecting healthy fisheries.

In addition, we highlight a few stories about Interior’s role in ensuring a balanced approach for managing our ocean and coastal resources in the Arctic. Let the “Surfing Bison” take you on a tour of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior, learn more about the National Ocean Science Bowl competition, and read about a record-setting invasive snakehead caught in the Occoquan River."
