For the week of 30 March 2015

Greetings OpenChannels Community Members,

PLoS ONE has published the open access title, Patterns and Emerging Trends in Global Ocean Health, in which the authors "present the second annual global assessment of the Ocean Health Index." Overall, the index for the planet increased by one point since last year. You may access the full-text using the link above.

As always, if we've missed anything, please feel free to let me know. You may simply reply to this message, or you may email me directly at nwehner [at] openchannels.org.

PS: For all the authors out there, approximately 40% of the OpenChannels community does not have paid access to subscription (pay-walled) journals. That roughly equates to 28,000 people to date. If just 1% of those users pay $40 to access a single paper, that's over $11,000 going to academic publishers instead of conservation. Just something to keep in mind if you want your hard work to reach the people and communities who need it most. More details to come from our latest community survey in an upcoming blog post. Stay tuned!

Happy reading,
-Nick Wehner, OpenChannels Project Manager
