Learning objectives:

  1. Engage and learn from an all new Marine Planning Curriculum that includes region-specific modules, interactive game-theory based activities and other innovative educational approaches.

  2. Network with coastal management professionals in an educational setting.

  3. Build the peer-to-peer network of coastal professionals in the local regions and join the national peer-to-peer network, developed during our past trainings.

Structure and content: The MPAT curriculum, derived from global best practices and featuring interactive and innovative educational styles, is designed for professionals with interest in coastal management at all experience levels in the practice of coastal and marine planning. Our training program actively popularizes the use of marine planning in the United States through the development and delivery of a highly-interactive curriculum for coastal and marine professionals. Each training also facilitates peer-to-peer networking by providing unstructured social time, regional field trips, or lunch time working groups to further explore topics of interest.

Target audience: Coastal managers, marine planning team members, community stakeholders, supporting NGO or university staff

Format: 4-day and 2-day versions of the interactive, in-person training are available either at Duke University or at a regional host location. An 8-week online version of the course is offered annually

Type of course: Non-degree short course

Number of participants: 25-40 in the in-person trainings is ideal. Online class size is 15-20.

Costs and conditions for participating: Online - $500 per person, in-person registration will depend on the region and duration.
