Learning objective: The Marine Resource Management program gives students a broadly based expertise in the management of marine and coastal resources including, but not limited to, fisheries, renewable energy, bioresources, and oil and gas. The program extends students’ skills and knowledge to encompass the sustainable development, use, conservation and general management of marine resources. The program team maintains strong links with industry and regulators involved in the sector. Emphasis is placed on project work that simulates real working situations.
Structure and content: This is a 12 month full-time (or 24 month part-time) MSc degree course taught at the Heriot-Watt University Orkney Campus. It involves studying 8 taught courses, of which 7 are compulsory with 1 optional choice. The MSc program is completed with a research dissertation equivalent to 4 taught courses.
Target audience: Anyone with an interest in the subjects taught. For MSc level entry, students must hold a good degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. life sciences, engineering, environmental studies, business studies, surveying) from a UK or Overseas University. In addition to the academic qualifications, motivation, work experience, and personality are taken into consideration.
Format: Taught (in person) at the Orkney Campus of Heriot Watt University. Assessment is through a mixture of coursework and examinations.

Costs and conditions for participating: For the upcoming academic year (2016/17), the fees are: £5800 for Scotland and EU students, £6800 for the rest of the UK, and £16,770 for Overseas students. Please note these are subject to change each year. A limited number of scholarships are available.
